Fiery Furnace Hike
Yeah, I've been to this park about a dozen times in the past
25 years.
So what?
I like this park. It's as close to an alien planet as any of us are
likely to get.
So I keep coming back.
And I will continue to come back, as long as I am able.
In all the times that I've visited Arches, I've never hiked
the Fiery Furnace. It's a very popular hike, and you need reservations
to do it. Since the reservations were usually two days in advance, I
never got a chance. We were lucky this time, as we got into Moab on
Sunday and snagged two spots on the Tuesday morning hike.
Since the area is ecologically sensitive and it's easy to get lost down
there, the hike is led by a real live Park Ranger.

The morning started out rainy, and we wondered if the hike
would be cancelled. It was cloudy, but holes were appearing.

By the time we assembed at the Fiery Furnace overlook, it
had stopped raining...

...and the sun came out as we began the hike.

Our leader, Park Ranger Victoria, explains what a cool place
this is.
