GBC Statement of Faith #2

"We Believe in the One True God:

Who is intelligent, sovereign, spiritual and personal Being; perfect, infinite, and eternal in His being, holiness and love, wisdom and power; absolutely separate from and above the world and its Creator, yet everywhere present in the world as the Upholder of all things.  He is revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three distinct persons but without division of nature, essence or being, and each having a distinct ministry in God’s relation to his creation and people."


Definitions:

Intelligent : revealing or reflecting good judgment or sound thought

Sovereign : excellent  : of the most exalted kind : supreme

Spiritual : of or relating to sacred matters

Personal : having the qualities of a person rather than a thing or abstraction

Perfect : being entirely without fault or defect: flawless

Infinite: immeasurably or inconceivably great or extensive : subject to no limitation or external determination

Eternal : existing at all times : timeless

Holiness : exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness

Love : unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another: as (1) : the fatherly concern of God for humankind

Wisdom : Knowledge, insight and judgment

Power : legal or official authority, capacity, or right : possession of control, authority, or influence over others

Essence : something that exists; substance, being or core

God is:

Omniscient : All Knowing

Omnipotent : All Powerful

Omnipresent : Everywhere at the same time

Trinity : Three in One   

He’s Real:

1.    We must accept God’s existence by faith.  Heb. 11:6

2.    You can’t prove God exists by scientific methods. 

3.    For example, you can’t measure love by pounds or justice by feet.  But you can’t say they don’t exist.

4.    God does, however give us evidences that He exists.

a.     Nature (Rom 1:19-20)

b.    Scripture (II Tim. 3:16)

c.     Prophecy (Hebrews 1:1)

d.    His Name (Exodus 3:14)

e.    Miracles (Acts 2:22)

f.    Through his Son, Jesus Christ (John 1:18)
